How to achieve - An inspiring and engaging ocean where society understands and values the ocean in relation to human wellbeing and sustainable development

Chairs : 

  • Hanne Nielsen is a Lecturer in Antarctic Law and Governance at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, University of Tasmania. Her research focusses on representations of Antarctica in popular media; polar tourism; and Antarctica as a workplace. Following 5 seasons guiding in the Southern Ocean, Hanne has a particular interest in the contemporary practices of polar tourism. She was the first HASS-based researcher to be awarded a Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) Fellowship in 2017. Hanne is a past President (2017-18) of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) and serves on the Executive Committee of the SCAR Standing Committee on Humanities and Social Sciences (SC-HASS). 
  • Rahul Mohan is the Group Director and Scientist at the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Goa, India. His research interest includes Paleoclimatology and Paleoceanography using archives from Antarctica, Southern Ocean and the Arctic. He is passionate about the Outreach and International Cooperation at NCPOR. Currently he is Member of the National Committee (India) for SCAR as also IUGS. Rahul is part of the SCAR CBET Committee and is the National Coordinator for the Asian Forum for Polar Sciences.
